Right then the full story..
i got my 1st saxo vts in 2005 ripped everything out of it and used it as a track/fast road tin can, in july 2005 somebody killed it, so found this one in swindon for a bargain and really liked it...

Did Trax2005 with it as i got it pretty much..

I didnt like the wheels so started the hunt for a better set! not finding anything very appealing..

Finally settled on the Compomotive Evo2's
Anyway, bought a few goodies from Campdave and Stewbert and collected at santapod.

had a mad few weeks of getting all the new goodies on it...
Cobra Imola's:

TAZ quickshift:

Ashley Exhaust & Decat and heatwrapped BTB manifold:

OMP peugeot 205 Rollcage:

Also had a viper ind kit but no pics..
ended looking like this...

then....
swapped for a 200sx, running 275bhp uber quick uber thirsty.
but this is about the saxo...
swapped back a few months later tho the saxo in a sorry state.. it had been stripped of all goodies and sat since i left it.
It has been raped of all its goodies and was near enough standard!! standard manifold, half an ashley gone, a cat!, no quickshift, no induction kit, , standard seats, and 106gti wheels!
Luckily i had kept the Compomotives!
i lost interest a lot and the car got very much abused and mistreated. for a while a mix of wheels and very old dodgy suspension and headgasket issues! I gave it a burst of life with a good clean up before kames 06 and risked going up there with serious headgasket issues and standard shocks that had been lowered 80mm 6years before and been hammered to death. with the headgasket the way it was i wasnt expecting to be driving home.

Kames went well all bar the ARB popping out on the motorway
the day i got back i snuck up to castle coombe for a half hour session with no anti roll bar and headgasket still dying! in V.W conditions.

a few weeks later this man came along..

and we put my previous saxo's engine in (which i paid £10 for!!)
much quicker, much better etc..
then i had some minor exhaust issues at trax 2007 (it fell off) which i got sorted...

then it was time to break up the white a little bit and go back to standard...
JJJ's

mine

finished result

it was on dodgy tyres and wheels and not getting a lot of love again, had hardly any interest in it and was tempted to get rid... it sat outside the house for a while with no front number plate or tax due to laziness and i used the van to get around instead of the car.
did a fair track days in it, with it being fairly poorly but still running well and bar its lack of grip performing very well.
decided to sort a few bits, got some new polybushed wishbones, fixed the ARB for good, attempted some painting inside and got some really tatty seats which lasted less than a week on some very unsafe custom subframes.
then i decided to hunt for some goodies and got hold of some reclining but still pretty cool sparco seats...

also got some 306gti6 brakes for the front, got my wheels powdercoated in white, new eagle f1s to stop me being lazy with changing half sets of wheels etc, ditched the slaggy steels as they wouldnt fit over the new brakes.
I got my hands on an AX rollcage, with some minor fabrication i got so very crude mounts and bolted it in.
I went and saw Mr Bunney as he was breaking his VTS and collected:
a refurbed beam with new discs, pads and calipers:

Quickshift:

B&M Gearknob with button:

A BTB Manifold:

TAZ Carbon Battery Box:

Front and Rear Bilstein Sport Shocks:

A few more pics of it...

a few shots if the cage mounts and fitting...

I then picked up a 1.3 Rallye box with a recent rebuild from SAXXXXXOSteve
Got another set of Imola's like the ones i had in it ages before, these are the smaller ones tho! much better...

New wheel studs arrived:

Windows Arrived:

and fitted:

The rear side windows were custom, they fit on the recess that would normally hold the rubber in.. im impressed with them so far...
Next thing was the cage, it hadnt been finished so i decided enough was enough and dug out the welder i bought and attempted to use it!!..with some grinding, home made tube notcher and some patience me and my mate rich (also never welded) produced the following...
before:

and the action shots....

the welder i got wasnt really man enough and kept playing up so i borrowed a MASSIVE welder, and some knowledge of a another mate. (he did some welding but not all of it!) we put in the harness bar....

Next!! the Headlining came out.
Rear Beam was been changed over - this was a bitch, the brake lines were rusted onto the old one so we had to make a new line!
we then took the cages B-pillar mounts have been taken out completely, i wasnt happy with them, so we began fabricating new ones this time i left the welding to my mecahnic mate who had returned from Australia for a bit...
a bit of cage mount welding with the dodgy old welder;

when the fuel tank caught fire mid weld!!!:

you can see the hose wedged up under the car... we had to push the car 20ft to get to the hose and jack it up.

in this you can see the water filling the car up and squirting through the seams of the car lol. a bad day

i concentrated on the wiring and had a tidy up;

a few snaps of the car while fitting the cage...

The Fibreglass boot fitted:

The Cage in place:

Had an accident when putting the cage in and cracked the windscreen

The "Rudi" Carbon Door cards arrived so i fitted them...

The Fibreglass bonnet was fitted:

finally got around to fitting my compbrake coilover kit from way back when the group buy went ahead!
a few pics;

I've ordered some 300lb 8inch springs for them as they are hating the 6inch 200lb ones... a bit of trial and error and we will see...
also made some mods to the grill and slam panel..

I didnt get any pictures after i cut the slam panel away, but you get the idea.

also sorted the camera mount out just before popping off to brands hatch for the day on Wednesday 28th Jan.. few pics...

got asked to retire at 2pm as the car was leaking fuel, since i got back i have ordered the following which should be on when it all arrives,
a set of mirrors
new fuel tank
new wiper motor (mine is screwed, there is loads of play in the arm)
braided fuel lines
an air filter!
some different springs for the coilovers. 300lb 8".
ill update this when i get a few bits on! |
