Engines & Tuning / Which injectors for low boost (6psi)
« on: 02, September, 2009, 19:58:25 PM »
If the choice is between 330s and 496s, i\'d go for the 496s and run them with a 3 bar FPR.

That way if you go for more power in the future you should be safe, and can get a wee bit extra overhead with a larger FPR if needbe. If you go for 330s you\'ll probably still be fine now, but not much scope for the future without forking out for injectors again. The 496s you won\'t use to the full potential with 200bhp, but its what i\'d go for.

Always need to think 2 steps ahead and buy what you\'ll need then - saves money in the long run.

Engines & Tuning / Using PDA\'S with your standalone ecu
« on: 02, September, 2009, 16:16:35 PM »
The KMS and DTA stuff i\'ve seen is Windows based.

The DTA is old enough that some of the old software may be DOS based, but doubt it would support the new ECUs.

If you can write code - you might be able to write your own software to read the serial signals and show them in a meaningful format real-time?

First issue would be how you\'re going to connect the PDA to the ECU?

Does the PDA have a serial port? Or USB port?

Doubt highly that any of the major standalone companies have software for PDAs. Best bet would be hoping that their normal software could work under a Windows enviroment on a PDA.

Then you\'ve got the issue of being able to read the on-screen info, and being able to navigate the menu\'s etc properly.

If you\'re lucky, you may find someone has written some code to be able to give you an onscreen display of major values on your PDA, but i think thats the best you\'re realistically going to get.

Think the usual trick to \'encourage\' the RROD is wrap it in a towel, in the airing cupboard, turned on. Will cause RROD pretty quickly apparently.

« on: 26, August, 2009, 21:51:34 PM »
Have you installed something recently - hardware or software?
Does it not give you an option to boot into Safe Mode?
What CDs were you given with the PC - is it a system restore cd, or a Windows cd?

Either way - i\'d phone Dell and at least log a call with them, and make sure that if the problem remains in a few days that because you opened the call with them prior to the warranty finishing that they\'ll honour it.

The only slightly hard bit might be setting up your router to allow you access in to the device, but we/the internet can help you.

Static IP address as well will be needed - so depends if that is provided by the ISP. Although i\'m sure there\'s alternative ways around it.

If its 4 studs you\'ve got on the struts - then the PCD is 4x108, not 4x110.

You probably could get adaptors - but you\'d be cheaper/easier getting ones that were the correct fitment to begin with IMO

Engines & Tuning / KMS dealers
« on: 21, August, 2009, 17:26:41 PM »
I think QEP are the only distributors of KMS in the UK, but obvious a few other places sell them (GMC for example).

Strange - i\'m sure that the KMS website used to list the distributors :? Have you tried calling the number in the hope that someone on the other end speaks English?

The manual ( http://kms.vankronenburg.nl/manuals/Idle%20control%20manual.pdf ) doesn\'t make the idle valve out to be too technical. Just basically grounds the circuit to open the valve. Nothing too complicated about it - so should be able to use something off of another vehicle.

Troubleshooting & Technical Issues / Which Relay?
« on: 20, August, 2009, 21:28:44 PM »
Yellow IIRC is for the heated rear screen/mirrors.

Although there\'s also one for the electric windows, and another for the heater blower.

And also they\'ll be one for the lights-on warning buzzer - which i think might be the white one.

IIRC Pauly Dixon (old school) has bought the black Saxo shell

lol - forgot it controlled that as well as the above mentioned. I was sure there was something else important it gave power to :D

Engines & Tuning / DTA problems (or could it be this?)
« on: 19, August, 2009, 18:52:22 PM »
There is a few different types IIRC, not all are the same. Any Saxo/106 should have one. But pretty certain that\'ll be whats causing the issues - either the relay not getting triggered, or one of the outputs not being sent to something.

Above post was before your edit.

99% certain that that\'ll be causing your problems. Its the ignition/injection relay. Bascially you\'re ECU grounds connections to trigger that relay, which in turn powers the injectors, ignition coil, lambda and a few other things.

Engines & Tuning / DTA problems
« on: 19, August, 2009, 18:42:34 PM »
Plug it into the laptop, and make sure its getting readings from all the sensors.

Can remember Tam and I had a problem with the running of a 205, it would start but wasn\'t running nicely. Plugged laptop in and straight away showed no signal being received from both the TPS and MAP sensor. IIRC flashes up on one of the screens where you\'re viewing all sensor signals. Since they share a common 5v and a common earth, it was fairly easy to trace the problem and resolve it.

Failing that look for any wierd signals that don\'t look right when cranking over.

boiled down to the ecu sending the map crazy.

What do you mean by the DTA sending the map crazy?? It\'ll do what the map tells it to do, and shouldn\'t change the map without user interaction.

Engines & Tuning / wideband lambda system with kms
« on: 17, August, 2009, 20:40:01 PM »
Yeah - not sure which ones off the top of my head, but in the KMS setup you can choose 1 of 3 (i think) different lambda ranges. Basically 3 different voltage/lambda value comparisons.

Just find a wideband sensor that sends out a signal that matches one of these expected inputs, and change the KMS to suit the signal.

Best people to speak to would either be John@GMC, or QEP as they seem to be the main sellers of the KMS.

Can\'t be 6 years since you sold the car surely?!?! :O

I remember being after the carbon bonnet, and it wasn\'t that long ago - a few years maybe, but not 6??

Throttle bodied engine IIRC - originally a VTR?

I\'m guessing with it being a Honda engine, it\'ll take to boost reasonably well without major engine internals. Bit of homemade manifold/downpipe/boost pipework. Pay out for an intercooler. Radiator can be stock for 1/4 mile as its over before it heats up. Engine management would cost.

Brakes - no need for 1/4. Suspension can be done cheap as well - set the rear high and stiff, front low and stiff so the weight transfer isn\'t as bad and stays over the front wheels.

I\'d guess it was do-able as long as a lot of the fabrication was done yourself and therefore not factored into the costs. £500 car, £300 tyres, £1000 management, £1000 turbo and intercooler, leaves £700 for suspension, injectors, forged pistons if need be.
