Brakes, Suspension & Steering / help with lower strut brace
« on: 28, December, 2009, 21:33:54 PM »
Have you tried jacking the car up or lowering it down if it is jacked up.

The wishbones that you are attaching the brace to will obviously move slightly depending on how much weight is on them

Engines & Tuning / VTS track car

Plans sound spot on mate.

Engine wise i would look at -

BMC CDA or raceland with green filter, or i prefer a panel filter with better airfeed.

Supersprint or raceland manifold. supersprint is much more expensive but for the money the raceland is very good.

Supersprint/magnex exhaust with decat. supersprint is quite loud and raspy, the magnex is quieter and deep.

Then as you say get your cams and remap done. depending on the cam you get, you should be looking at about 150 - 160 bhp

What suspension you going for?

30-40mm drop, uprated shocks, springs, dampers would be good with upper and lower strut braces.

Invest in powerflex bushes, they keep everything tight.

plenty of upgrades for the brakes on saxos, although you are restricted by what wheel size you have. if you go 15\" you can sometimes get 283mm discs under them.

Stripping it out is the best idea, if you get them engine mods and get the weight right down you wont be far off 200bhp per tonne.

use the search function, and guides for some good advice.

make sure you make a progress thread with plenty of pictures

Welcome to ssc, another member from lincoln i see.

Probably best to start with a VTS as they are quicker to start off with.

VTR - 0-60 = 9 secs, 0-100 = 29 secs
VTS - 0-60 = 7.5 secs, 0-100 = 22 secs

then go for a nice exhaust, induction, manifold, decat or sportscat.

then sort brakes, suspension and tyres out

then look at cams and remap.

strip the car out. weight ruins performance.

you should be looking at about 150-160 bhp depending on cams.

if you still want more you want to be looking at throttle bodies or turbo or s/c

by that time you may as well have bought a faster car in the first place as it would have been cheaper

Got my recliner buckets fitted -

Just ordered a miltek Manifold with sports cat

Got my braided lines, powerflex rear beam mounts to get fitted and repaint the brake calipers

Just about finished modifying it now, on the look out for powerflex front mounts and some proper saxo floor mats. Then i have to decide whether to sell or cam it in a few months.

Few pics of what he looks like now

Gave this old school beast a good wash and polish today.

The car belongs to my girlfriends dad and unfortunately he passed away a few months ago and so the car has to be sold.

He bought it as a weekend car a few years back as it was something he had always fancied. He has spent soo much money getting everything working and looking good.

I have enjoyed the car too, having taken it round cadwell park and was all booked to go to the nurburgring but couldn\'t attend as he passed away the weekend before we were due to go.

As it is now for sale, i thought giving it a few hours attention is the least i could do after all the memories i have with it.

He had just got some brand new alloys fitted which i think look awesome and deserved and polish.

Process -

Wheels cleaned with bilberry and various brushes
All shuts/hard to reach places cleaned with APC and brushes
Washed with simonez wash and wax with sheepskin mitt
Dried with microfibre cloths
Polished with AG SRP and megs applicator, buffed off with microfibres
Polished wheels with above
Tyres dressed with AG instant tyre dressing
Exhaust cleaned with autosol and toothbrushes
glass done inside and out with AG fast glass
Finished with Megs last touch
Interior hoovered out.

Heres the pictures -

Me on cadwell -

Comments welcome

If anyone is interested in buying the car I can PM a telephone number to get in contact with the owner. Or if i know the answers to any questions then i can answer them.

Thanks for looking

All about smoothness, whether its steering or braking/accelerating

Don\'t slam brakes/accelerator on, be progressive both on and off the pedals.

if your not braking, keep some pressure on the accelerator, the more momentum you can carry through the corners allows the kart to not get bogged down on exiting a corner.

I\'m just about to get some fitted.

From what i have read they are just as good as goodrich and others

57
Check wheel bearings and drive shaft boot

could be a drive shaft, but those options are cheaper.

If you can get the car to make the noise when stationary, for example get the clutch biting with the handbrake and get a mate to have a look/listen to where it comes from.

If you rub the badges with T-cut it takes off the silver and makes them black, or you could paint them :)
