8v VTR head tuning

  • First post so go easy on me!

We had just recently an 8v VTR head on the flow bench for testing purposes, it went really well and seemed a very responsive head when worked in all the right places with some good results.

I was looking into what other people may have done with this head, but have drawn a blank so far as it seems everyone does the 16v type.
Surely someone has developed this head somewhere? If so do you know where I could find any results, CFM figures etc?

It seems to me that this 8v engine may have been overlooked by people looking for bigger BHP figures to brag about and forgetting that in the real world (not on the race track) a good torquey 8v engine is what matters more than a high RPM 16v screemer.
Your thoughts on the above are appreciated....

  • i cant remember exactly, it was many years ago. something to do with the head pressurising the coolant (and it wasnt the gasket).

  • when we used to race a 1294cc ax ,which has a similar head
by the time we had modifed it to death  it gave 157bhp @7800 rpm
with t/bodies larger valves our own spec cam and special rocker gear

what i can say without getting into full spec etc is that you should concentrate on the ex side
in our last spec we actually made the inlet ports smaller from the manifold facing as the large size there slowed down the gas speed
we ran 40mm inlet valves and 30m ex valves ,but not of std type or shape
when the flag drops the bullshit stops
